The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is one of Close to Home’s most important annual initiatives and a key part of understanding homelessness in San Antonio and Bexar County. Required by HUD, the count provides a one-night snapshot of people experiencing both sheltered and unsheltered homelessness.
Close to Home leads this community-wide effort by coordinating volunteers, service providers, outreach teams, and partner organizations to collect accurate data across the region. This information helps guide local planning, funding decisions, and housing strategies, while also identifying emerging needs and trends.
Beyond the data, the PIT Count is an opportunity to come together as a community to build understanding, strengthen partnerships, and take part in a shared effort to address homelessness.
While the PIT Count is our primary volunteer opportunity, there are other ways to support throughout the year. Opportunities may include inclement weather response efforts, donation drives, partner volunteer needs, and helping plan or participate in events like Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
